Tianjin International School
Early Childhood Center
Promotional Video

In 2019, I set out to make a video highlighting the key features and promoting attendance at Tianjin International School's Early Childhood Center.

Before joining Tianjin International School, I wanted to learn everything I could about the school. What I found was that there wasn't really any content online, especially for the Early Childhood Center for which my wife was interested in working. One of my goals at TIS was to publish more content across multiple channels that highlighted the school's key features and conveyed the vibrant, welcoming, fun atmosphere of the school. A project that I feel accomplishes this the most is the ECC promotional video.

I storyboarded the project, wrote the script for this video, communicated with the relevant teachers involved, and filmed the entire project. I filmed with a Panasonic Lumix GH4 on a stabilized gimbal at 1080p and 24 frames per second for this project. I changed the variable frame rate for slow motion in the camera's settings. For the scripted monologue, I filmed on a tripod and recorded audio with a lapel microphone on a separate audio recorder.

One of the challenges I gave myself was implementing a modern a new editing skill. I learned how to do a title reveal using masking. In After Effects, I masked the child running on the playground and had his body reveal the video's title. While this is a minor touch, It adds a nice effect to the video and engages the viewer with an unexpected transition.

I edited the entire project in Adobe Premiere Pro. In my opinion, one of the most important things to get right is the color. I intend to get as true to real life as possible on the first pass and then add a color grade to match the video's tone and the school's brand guidelines. The warm and vibrant tone creates the feeling that students have in the ECC and at TIS as a whole.
